The Bialystok Developers’ Challenge - Fostering young talent in IT
The Białystok Developer’s Challenge (BTI) is a yearly programming competition held by the Białystok Polytechnic’s IT department amongst students of local high schools. The winner is awarded free admission to the Polytechnic’s BA IT programme, making the competition an effective method of finding and fostering young talent.
Step one
In 2023 cronn GmbH offered BTI my services as part of the sponsorship contract. The graphics for the 2022 edition been put together by volunteers from open-source graphics downloaded from the Internet and the organisers were looking for something new and different.

Step two
After doing research into the competition and talking to the organisers, I knew they were looking for something which would stand out and be different than stereotypical IT graphics and, if possible, would like something more nature-themed. I chose to work with the idea of an IT student working in one of the city’s many parks:

Step three
The organisers were happy with my vision, however they asked if it would also be possible to make a version with a male student. This would mean there would be two different posters being distributed, thus enhancing the campaign’s visibility.

Step four
After getting the green light on the linearts, I started working on the colours. At this stage of the project I was informed that the possibility of an outdoor campaign was being discussed if I could deliver appropriately scaled-up images. After finishing the colour work I reworked the lineart to fit the DPI requirements.

Step five
The final step involved selecting and placing text, sponsor logos and end formatting. I was also asked to deliver versions in RGB to be used in the on-screen materials before and during the competition.
